Painting is a cathartic need for self-expression, which I can project upon my subject. |
Biography
Hello, my name is Heidi Gough and I am an Artist based in Bristol.
I studied Graphic Design and gained a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art at Glyndwr University, near my hometown of Oswestry in Shropshire. I broadened my creative skills during employment as an Artist’s Assistant, making bespoke jewelry, and for a local sculptors, painting ceramics, before relocating to Bristol to join the Bristol Guild of Applied Art Ltd in 2008. There, I connected with artists and creators, notably; the Ken Stradling Collection, The Bristol Design Festival, and various craft publishers. Collaborative contributions include; the Guinness Book of Records, ‘World’s largest greetings card’, fashion photography and street art projects. More recently, I have enjoyed teaching art to students with additional learning needs. I continue creating paintings to commission and crafting with my two children. Artist's StatementI paint semi-abstract studies in oil. The aim of my work is to communicate on an emotional level with the viewer. I endeavour to understand my subject, form and light, and use colour and pattern to express my joys and pains in the process. Each piece is a marker of where I am mentally and emotionally at the time, which I can revisit to reflect on and reconnect with. It’s a cathartic and personal journey.
